Well, I haven't posted my finds in a bit, been too busy diggin
I went to a local beach for a few hours this morning to try my luck in the wet sand. I keep seeing Crackbadgers face up on the banner, and it makes me want to push my machine further than I know it will go :P So, needless to say, I didn't find a single gold ring, or anything for that matter in the wet sand. Signals are just too goofy for my Prism III. Gotta get a BHID. Anyway, I was checking the dry sand, and got a beep while I was looking away. I looked back and saw a patch of fur just barely sticking out of the sand. Now, here on Okinawa, we have a problem with abandoned pets. Some folks get em while they are here, then don't want the hassle to get em home, so they leave them. Well, I thought I picked up the tags on some poor cat or dog! But I figured that if I picked up a tag, then maybe the owner was looking for him, and would want to know that Garfield bit it, rather than ran away. So I bent and brushed some of the sand off, and saw this:
Well, I can take a joke, so I got a big laugh about the whole deal. Also very happy I didn't have to call the owner about the cat that lost the fight with a sea critter
I spent enough time at the beach for my nerves, so I went back on Kadena Air Base to do a little checking on an area that used to have Quonset huts on them. Here is a pic I dug up.
Well, i got a target about 4 inches deep, read like a quarter, so I cut the plug..and out popped a live .50Cal round! Now, this thing is big. Way bigger than any 30.06 I ever shot! And rusty to boot. Now, they actually run commercials here on what to do when you find UXO (Unexploded ordinance). So I called my friendly Security Forces, and they came and got it. He was more nervous about moving it that I was! I wish I had the camera with me, sorry about that one folks, lesson learned
At that same site, I found this coin, that I have no idea of an age. I think it is still Japanese, but it is smaller than the 1yen is now, and I think it predates 1972, but that is all I know. The back is too corroded for a decent pic, but here is the front:
I also found this one, thought it was another memorial until I felt the edges. This one at least I know is from Hong Kong!
Well, still no silver yet. I am starting to feel that the old coins are really going to be too deep for my current machine. I am finding new quarters at 6". But I am still going to all the old spots I can. Hope you enjoyed the post!
