Looks like something for plumbing... But if you found it at a house that old that's probably not what it is..

Ooh, it's the bottom part of a modern style electric light (lamp) socket. Compare it to a standard incandescent light you have. The top part is a friction fit and the bulb fits in that half.

Lamp thing is correct. We have to remember just because a house or building site is old doesnt mean newer thinggs were never used at that house.
