Weird Barrel Tap Type

Hello All,

I dug this barrel tap end in South Louisiana and I haven’t seen anything like it before, not even posted on the forum. Any ideas what it’s use or purpose was?

The only wild guess I can make is it's some type of filtration tap. Maybe there was a lot of fotsam and jetsom in the contents of the barrel lol

They wander back and forth between wine and beer taps ? Didn't come across an explanation.
My searching was limited, but made me wonder if this was more of a UK thing ?
