The farmer plowed an old tavern site I have been pounding since 2012. Over the years I have found 18 Spanish Silvers, a Draped Bust Dime, a Capped Bust Half Dime, 50+ coppers, and 200+ buttons here. The place doesn't produce like it used to, but there is still the potential to find an nice old coin.

Didn't get much on Saturday, but did manage to recover my 5th Half Cent from this site.

I stopped and snapped a picture of this thinking I might have a silver cuff link. But it was only a silver plated button.

Since I wasn't finding many metallic items, I amused myself by picking up ceramic shards :laughing7:

Thanks for looking and if you get out, I hope you have better luck than me.

Congrats on the very nice keepers...love the old copper! :occasion14:

Nice Half Cent! Those super early US coins are cool finds. Definitely on my bucket list. Congrats

Steve in PA, very nice find. “I hope you have better luck than me”, I will take your luck any day, especially after reading what you have pulled out of the field so far. Though I believe luck is just an outcome of hard work and research when it comes to metal detecting and you have it in spades. Good luck with your hunts. Walt

Thanks Walt. There are two sayings that ring true in this hobby - "You get out of it what you put into it" and "You make your own luck".
Best of luck to you as well

Great finds, congrats.

Great finds and post I have been looking for a half cent for years lol Well done

I'd kill to find a draped bust half cent. Never even found a US Large Cent in years of detecting. We just don't have anything that old out here. Way to go!

I hope you get one Tommy. It seems they were more popular from 1800 to about 1820 or so than they were in the mid 1800s. I have found quite a few of them and most are Draped Bust.

Thanks. Hopefully you will get a few before you hang up your detector

Man that site has been a good one for you over the years. Congrats on the half cent and the rest.

Steve, I reckon you've done pretty well for yourself at this site. Well Done on some very nice old coins.

As always,great saves Steve :icon_thumright:

Wow very nice finds! Congrats! :icon_thumleft: I'd love to have luck like yours! All I've been digging is canslaw, clad, and lead.

One thing remains certain...drinking folks were careless with their money back then too! The number of those old shards would keep my interest going. You probably still have more to find there. Hope the farmer tills the field for you again. No one plows up here anymore. Good luck!

My buddy who is a voracious detector and finds basically everything just found his first confirmed half cent and he's been detecting 4 years. That means they are a rarity in our area! Congrats. I hope to find one someday! Also have to mention that a draped bust half cent is awesome! For me any day that I don't get skunked and find something better than a wheatie is a good day!

Old Dude, This is a very large site, probably covering 2.5 football fields. I know there is more to find. Just depends on how deep he plows.
