FINALLY was able to head south to east Tenn to get in two long days of CW relic hunting. Dad has obtained permission to hunt a new spot that is a well known Confederate and Union campsite....although it has been apparently hit hard, we still got a few saves out of a tobacco patch. Interesting mix of bullets:
58 cal minies, a 58 cal Gardner, a Smith carbine, a fired Sharps carbine, a chewed and carved on 69 cal minie and some pistol balls. Also a sweet snapped base Kirk point, and a silver Washington quarter. Dad found an unusual brass item....at first glance I thought it was a company letter O, but it is not, I know I have seen one of these before but can't place it at the moment. Not sure it is CW. Any idea? Thanks for looking!
Bill

I don't know a thing about Native American artifacts, but I know Ive seen a couple like that on the banner.... It's a pretty rare point right ???

nice lead finds , hard to tell if your arrowhead is fluted but it looks like a Paleoindian hunters business end of an arrow .. like it a lot

Nice finds Bill. The presence of melted lead verifies a well used campsite. It's fun to dig a variety of bullets as I'm sure you and your Dad enjoyed. WTG, Quindy.

Good finds and a nice looking point. Too bad the base was snapped off.

Nice haul.. luv finding arrowheads while metal detecting!

Thanks Jeff! Unfortunately it is a snapped base Kirk, meaning "broken Kirk"...some arrowhead collectors/dealers believe that the bases were snapped off deliberately, as so many are found like that, but I don't buy it...I think they just plain got broken off during use or during the notching process. Had it been intact with the symetry and material (color) it would have been a 200-300$ point...now, it's just a "heartbreaker"

that is a awesome point ! great finds !
