Hey Guys,

I'm new to the site, but have been lurking and admiring everyone's finds for some time. I met up with Keith in Southern Ohio at his dig site. We somehow managed to dig for a few hours in the 100+ degree heat before calling it quits. I came home with some good pieces, some of which I found, and some of which Keith found. A big thanks again to Keith for being so kind and having me out. I'm new to this, and the pictures may be quite large, so if you have any advice on sizing these, please throw it my way. Please also chime in on what you think these are. We were digging a Ft. Ancient / Hopewell site...I look forward to getting back out there and digging again.

(I'm not sure which order these are in, so I'm taking my best guess here: 1) Paddle Drill 2) Ft Ancient triangles (top one unfinished, bottom one serrated and slight tip chip) 3) and 4) Blade preform top view and side view - this is a piece which someone appears to have started and then abandoned 5) Finished blade, pretty worn down, not broken 6) and 7) Likely just a chip, but I'm curious if this could be a scraper. It's still sharp enough to cut, but I can't tell if the one side is truly worked.

Thanks everyone for viewing!
Dave

I would like to see the other side of #6 &#7 the other side might be the side that shows chipping .It looks like I can see where it was pressured flaked from this side that, I can see. And yes it could be a scraper.

Wow a definite drill day!!!......Some nice examples. Picture 3 looks like a Copena drill picture 4 makes it look like a broken point. The last piece is just a fragment. Very nice finds........................GTP(Chris)

Thanks for posting the finds Big Dave. Your pictures look great.

How many people do you know that would let someone else in on a site like this?! Keith, you set a fine example and I hope folks take notice. It's an honor to know someone (in an internet kind of way) that is willing to share something like this.....fantastic.

Here is the scoop. Anybody in my driving area is welcome to come down and dig(1320). Its finders/keepers. The situation is that the farm (180 acres) is being divided as the owners have passed away which were my two uncles. I have been helping them care for the farm over the past 7 years. One family wants to keep their half and the other ones want to sell. My dig site is the part thats being sold. I have the ok from the owners to dig or plow to look for artifacts. And I have about a 6 acre bottom below my dig area that needs to be plowed. However, I am staying focused on digging that top part first. I usually dig Saturday night and Sunday morning. But I sneak down in the middle of the week sometimes. And now due to the drought I have more time. I am actually going down there in a couple of hours and will probably dig all weekend. The ground is hard. But it beats setting in the house all weekend watching golf. The farm is in Adams County, Ohio around a mile up Brush Creek from the Ohio River. Thanks for the nice replies and views. My cell is 937-217-8490.
