Interesting. I looked online and saw they're only doing that in Thailand, Switzerland and Canada so that's why I haven't seen it in the US. Cool idea but I agree with what you said. Seems like we will never get rid of all the pulltabs!

That's great news for jewelry hunters!

If tabs sounded like silver coins there would be many more silver coins in the public parks today. I have an old park I keep working. No silver for me there, but the jewelry... I come home every hunt with at least one ring or chain that's often junk, but often enough not that I keep going back.

I dont understand why someone pulls them off to throw them on the ground ? I do understand why (not really) in the Late 60s and 70s they were discarded and thrown on the ground who wnated to hang on to them unless you put them back into the can.

I can't either. Why break them off?

Most of the time it's from fidgeting or just plain boredom. I vaguely remember those days between maybe 15-20 before life happened and I had no more time for boredom or fidgeting! At 46 I barely have time to pop the top on a beer much less time to pull the tabs off one!
I remember the really cool guys would pull the tabs off and put them in the beer they were about to drink. This never made good sense to me since we had all heard stories of people choking to death being that cool!
Does anyone know what year the stopped using beaver tails on drink cans. I barely remember my parents drinking beer in the 70-early 80's with them but don't remember exactly when the started using square tabs.

I think I read the stay-tab was introduced around 1972 or so. The transition from ring-pulls took a few years but most beverage companies had made the switch by 1979-80. I may be a little off on my dates but it's around there.
