We Don't Need No Stinking Coppers

Hello All,

Been hunting so much I've hardly had the time to clean the finds yet. As the bags of flat buttons and bits to investigate swamp my desk, I decided I'd better throw a post up here. A stellar find dug today also prompted me to get off my duff and post. So lets start with a video. Coppers. Coppers! Coppers!!!

Now... Where do I start? How about a few scenery shots from the past two hunts:

3.jpg

And perhaps a photo of one of the luckiest SOB's alive:

4.jpg

Now, a few digs with Hill Billy. What you see below is only the non-ferrous. The iron vastly outnumbered the good targets:

5.jpg

I got a nice floral civilian button with gilding remaining:

6.jpg

I also dug a great ramrod channel and trigger guard (cleaned photo below):

7.jpg

Hilly Billy got a nice General Staff Button and a semi-key 1870 Indian Head Cent in excellent shape:

8.jpg

9.jpg

10.jpg

And he got a big piece of brass... :icon_scratch: Hame? Saddle pommel?

Then a cool find from a very early site for this area (occupied late 1700s through 1830s). Rodeo Recon found this one. It's a miracle medallion with a French inscription:

B.jpg

Some of his and Bonzaibrandi's finds from last hunt:

C.jpg

And a close up of Brandi's eagle Cavalry cuff button and musket trigger guard with a daisy engraved on the underside:

D.jpg

Here's a crusty 1857 Flying Eagle Cent I dug today. (I can never seem to find one of these in decent shape. This is actually the Nicest one I have dug so far :D )

E.jpg

Oh yeah... and Coinmaster2db found this one today. No plough dings. Perfect. With shank.

F.jpg

That's a BIG find, and dug in Indiana to boot! Perhaps a soldier souvenir item there, considering the eagle cuff from the same site.

Keep making the finds that shouldn't be in Indiana, Mr. 2db. Today cast block "I," tomorrow a hammered silver? Have you ever considered metal detecting in the tot lots? I hear there is lots of clad to be recovered there--and even perhaps a gold earring or two. Yes, anything your heart desires is in a tot lot. You are getting very sleepy... Tot lot. Tot Lot!

Re: We Don't Need No Stinking Coppers

Well the video didn't quite live up to the hype but the finds ain't bad! :headbang: You're right, you guys don't speak with a strong accent and I'd probably take more heat for the way I talk. ;D

....but I'd have a copper in the hole! ;D

Re: We Don't Need No Stinking Coppers

Obvious rip on Kirk and Kyle here. It's a shame Buckleboy that you have to revert to Jr. high school jealousy to prove a point to all here on Treasurenet that maybe someone out there is doing better than you. Those two guys have grown up alot since first signing on to treasurenet. The same can't be said for you. >:(

I'd take a $200 button over a copper any day. This seems to not be the year for coppers for us. Nobody on the team has dug one in 2010 yet! :o But we each have a good button so far--and Coinmaster has a Great button, and I have a boxplate already. I found a blazing Seated so far, and Coinmaster has as well, and I dug a Seated Quarter and another nice silver, and HB has dug Spanish already. :D Considering how late it stopped snowing this year, we haven't been hunting long in 2010, so that's excellent on the relics and silver. Each year, it's all about what the ground wants to deal us. All we can do is go along for the ride. :)

(And the video? Well...you know why I posted that video.) Comic relief. :laughing7:

Yeah, looks like game on. :laughing9:

I like both coins and buttons equal, but have had far more days with my keeper find being a button. I'd be just as happy with a nice MASS silver as I would a plate! :tongue3:

Think I'm digging tomorrow. At least that's the plan right now.

Re: We Don't Need No Stinking Coppers

i haven't found a bucket handle in months! bet you don't get 20 of those this year, even if you do have another 20 copper year.
great stuff again, love the site picks, and sweet buttons.

Sounds like you need some digs, IP. Get out and dig up something good.

True. Those bucket handles only come around once a year or so. There's no hope of getting a 20 bucket handle year. I am very pleased with the great military relics this crew has been raking in lately.

If you film it, I'd watch it. (But I might not pay to see it in a theater unless it was Really good. ;D )

My bud does have at least one high-end digital so we could. ;D He's actually big into photography so wouldn't have to twist his arm to take it along and make me a star. 8) The question is... would I want to! :icon_scratch:

Re: We Don't Need No Stinking Coppers

Fantastic finds.

I found the exact thing a while back. Is this the one you refer to as the ram rod channel? What time frame would you place it in?
