I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Plus I hope the weather stays the way it is for all of us, and for the white Christmas here in western New York ………Forget about it!!! The long range forcast is no snow! Yahoo……….I will take it.
Anyway I just wanted to add to my post with a discovery of a (DUKE of WATERLOO ) Button that I had found at the 1790’s site I have been Detecting. The funny thing about this is, I was here in my office cleaning a few buttons and at the same time watching the History international channel. Well what was on The History of the Duke of Wellington and his defeat over Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo! Now that is strange………! This happens to be the second Waterloo button I have found over the last couple of years. The first one was at the “Two old Cellar Hole site”. I thought I would share this new find with the forum. Here is a little info on The Duke of Wellington……..
In 1814 Arthur Wellesley was granted the title, the Duke of Wellington. He was then put in command of the forces which defeated Napoleon at Waterloo in June, 1815. Parliament rewarded this military victory by granting Wellington the Hampshire estate of Strathfieldsaye.
Here is another site which talks about Arthur Wellesley Commander…….http://www.napoleonguide.com/leaders_welling.htm
This is the pic of the Button found this past week : The top right is the button , before I cleaned it....... It reads , Duke of Waterloo.....With what looks to be a cannon, with maybe guns or flags at the bottom....
The button below is the one I found at the “ two old Cellar hole site” Which reads....... (Prince of Waterloo)
Thanks again for all the kind words ………..and have a great Holiday season!
