Managed to go detecting this morning for a couple of hours before getting rained out. Found this Waterfowl USA bird band buried 2" deep next to freshwater pond\marsh. I have previously found a half dozen US Fish & Wildlife Service bands and dutifully reported them online. I like how they quickly respond with the bird's source bio and give you a downloadable certificate. Can't wait to find one of the bands with a cash reward.

Tracked down their website although they have no form to report found bands. With a 1994 prefix number this one is probably 30 years old. I hope they share the bird's info. "Waterfowl USA was established in January of 1983 as a national organization dedicated to reinvesting locally raised funds back into the local & state waterfowl habitat projects."

I enjoy finding bands and contributing to the conservation databases. It's a free public service offered by metal detectorists. This reminds me of a joke. One day while showing some finds, an onlooker shouted "grave robber" at me. I replied: "no sir, I am a not a lawyer." I later found out he is one.

First time I have ever detected in the rain. I have been out plenty during snowstorms with accumulation. But the ticks are now heavy here in the NE USA and the rain was washing the insecticide off of my boots. I have discovered that spraying pyrethrum on the lower part of my boot and Deep Woods Off on the upper works very well. Otherwise, if you stop walking in our woods you can actually see the ticks start moving up the boot. The soft uppers of Muck brand boots foils ticks too. They seem to think the brown foam is an animal carcass and they often stop to chew on it.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Cool find. The only one I’ve ever found was on a wood duck.

ticks give me the heebie jeebies. Pulled a lone star tick off of me once and a few days later I was in the hospital with rocky mountain spotted fever feeling like I was on my death bed. If I could wish them off the planet, I would.
