Even though I've only been out a couple times this year I still watch the conditions close. Chesapeake Bay Water temps are normal for this time of year, 81 / 82. I did notice temps in May were warmer by a few degrees, they hit 70 by early June, which is not normal.

Our ocean water temps here in San Diego are about average for this time of year.....68-70 degrees. it rarely gets higher than low 70's. In the bays it can get higher though.

Well I live very close to manatee Bay where the 101 temperature was recorded a couple weeks ago. Since then we finally got some wind and rain, and that temperature is now back in the 80s.....the doomsday people freak out here everytime we are in an la Ninia cycle. Water trapped in the shallows by light westerly winds heats up to extremely high Temps. Rain or the normal south east trade winds quickly eleveiate the problem. People are absolutely going bonkers over the coral bleaching that's happening here. The truth is we go through bleaching cycles every summer. Other areas of the ocean bottom reach optimal Temps for coral to grow and it forms in these areas as fast as it bleaches and recedes in others. Water has been pleasant latley with a large cold rain water induced thermocline. These thermoclines can be seen with the naked eye underwater, and look like a blurry section of water. They can often be 10 degrees cooler in these layers. Went yesterday with my son and it was beautiful lounging around the swim hole !! Paradise !!
