Looks like a valve for releasing air or steam. Threads have been used as a fastening device for over 150 years... Your item looks to be from the early 1900s to 1930s IMO.

I believe its from a toilet. I remember replacing them. The little valve can also be replaced.

I just realized how short it is. It would have to be a special short toilet tank or maybe Im wrong lol. I still think the principal is the same. I think its a water shut off valve of some kind.

It may be from one of those lo-boy toilets.

it is a float valve but from the large size i'd say it was for a livestock watering tank.
