Water Hunting Viewer

I believe I saw Harold on the west coast of Fla. with something like that in one of his
pictures.I believe it was mounted on an innertube or float, and he could watch as he
scooped.Maybe one of the upper west coast guys could chime in on that one.HH Joe

id like to put my 2 cents in.please dont take this the wrong way,but it is a waste of time, energy, although it is interesting, the easier way to go would be mask, but that gets in the way also, just my 2 cents

Mask and snorkel. You can get in the water to the top of your head.

Don't forget a quick release weight belt. Once you are in over your head, you become bouyant and float when you try to dig. The key word is quick release and it wouldn't hurt to have an emergency pull handled CO2 inflateable device also to get you floating if you get in trouble.

I have used the mask and snorkle and it does help a ton in clear water but if you are in a place that stirs up bottom muck, you aren't going to do yourself much good.

My two cents worth.

Search in Gold Prospecting supplies. I saw one, at one of the sites. I'm thinking about getting one. It looked like a long viewing tube. As it is. If I run across it, I'll post it.

Try Sam Raddings Book of Plans Vol. II Pg. 3. Has a pretty good plan for a viewer using 3"dia. PVC pipe to make a viewer for sniping gold in rivers. The only change I made was to put the plexiglass over the end of the pipe & sandwich it on with half of a slip connector ti make a little lip to protect the plexi from scratches when you set it down. Also added a couple of handles to make it easier to keep in the water since it wants to float.

The only difficult thing I can see for hunting in the surf is trying to keep water from splashing into the tube, and being able to hold it while keeping your head over the hole since sun shining in messes up your view. Now add to this trying to keep a grip on your scoop, the viewer, detector, and looking for the next wave.
