I went back in the water to do the second half of the fresh water swimming area with the ATPro. I have it set on pro zero with the iron audio on and the iron discrimination set at 30. I use markers and do a grid pattern and scoop up everything with a mid or high tone and some of the bigger low tones just to clean the place up and because they sometimes mask the smaller gold target. The center part of the area was pretty dead except for a couple of fresh spills, so I think someone else has been detecting there lately. But the good news is that they must not have done the ends and they produced some goodies.

In 3.5 hours I found 48 coins with a face value of $6.70, a toy car, 5 pop tabs, sinkers, 2 dollar coins, 3 decorative keys, a shoe grommet, earrings, part of a necklace clasp, a fake cob coin/kiddie pirate coin, a toy Black Ops bullet, a ring, 2 earring backs and of course some foil from wrappers.

One earring is a hinged 14k gold earring with a lot of tiny cz?s. The ring is 10k with a heart made of pink cz?s. The 15 in the center tells me it is probably a quinceanera ring. Quinceanera is a celebration of a girls 15th birthday that I believe originated in Mexico and is now observed in other Latin American countries. The elephant earring and gold colored earring back were about 10 feet apart so I think they go together. I thought they were both gold when I found them, but when I got home and looked closer I could see they were not, bummer.

That brings the total gold count to 7 since my new year started May 1. The smallest is an earring back and this ring is the largest so far this year. Nothing big, but gold prices are still good so every little bit counts. I will be camping with the family this weekend and doing some early morning detecting in another fresh water lake so hopefully I will have more to report. Thanks for looking, stay safe and may your coil lead you to good things.

Awesome finds! I've been wanting to do river detecting but don't know the exact laws on water hunting in Maryland. Especially rivers around battlefields.

Great finds! We need to find some water!

Awesome finds! I've been wanting to do river detecting but don't know the exact laws on water hunting in Maryland. Especially rivers around battlefields.

I know the rules and regs for state park hunting. There are restrictions on when you can hunt and you must stay on the beach and swimming areas. You may only take modern coins and jewelry. Anything old or historic must remain on site.

Some of the other lakes I detect are city or privately owned and their rules are up to them.

I have never hunted a river, but I believe it would depend on whether the water goes through private or park land. Most of the battle fields in Maryland are National Parks so no detecting there. But if the area is surrounded by private land I think you would be ok. If anyone knows more please chime in.

Thanks for the reply and keep swingin,

I found a quinceanera ring here in California a while back myself.

Are you wading in the water or do you dive underwater? Gary

Gary I’m a wader. I’m usually able to cover all of the park swimming areas without the need to dive. Only one park has deep water in the swimming area and in that one the water level goes down to wading level by the end of the summer.

Stay safe and keep swingin.
