Last night,, about 2 hours before sundown, I got together with my neighbors, Lori and Jeff. They have expressed an interest in using a metal detector, so I decided it was time for Treasure Hunting 101.
I gave Jeff a fully charged Etrac and put it in the Basic #1 program. (No headphones). I threw down a clad quarter and we watched the VDI screen shout out a 12-47. I explained that for now, he will be listening and watching for any targets that registered up in the 40's. I gave Lori the DEUS, running my custom program. We finally settled on hunting their neighbor Joe's backyard. Lori's first coin was a memorial back Lincoln penny. The next two targets were Wheat Pennies. I noticed right away that the 3 targets were in a straight line. Lori had found the clothes line. The very next target was a 1956 Silver Roosevelt Dime. I said out loud,, "This is embarrassing! " By now, Jeff, who was unaware of Lori's good fortune, retired to his
backyard patio. Lori pulled 2 more wheaties before we moved past the area we figured was once the clothes line. Running out of daylight, we decided to head for her backyard patio and show Jeff her finds.
Sure enough, on the way and still swinging the coil, Lori got a nice audio signal. I dug down about six inches and out pops a dropped musket ball.
This lady is a natural!!
