Watch out for these people at estate sales ugh!

So today I was at a sale and they had tons of sterling, art, clocks, etc. They had this 3 piece silver plate set consisting of a creamer, sugar, and another cup. It was gold plated and was $95 for the set. They then had a very very nice and heavy Cartier sterling gold washed tray. If you never looked at the markings you would have thought the tray went with the set. Anyways, someone had ripped off the price tag of $1500 on the tray and threw it away somewhere. They then proceeded to put it with the silver plate set and then actually thought they were going to buy it. Thankfully the person checking everyone out caught it as I was standing there watching it unfold. The lady holding the tray tried to get all defensive saying they were together blah blah yeah right. They went back and forth, obviously the Cartier tray was not included in the $95.... The things people do at these sales is incredible, watch out guys! She would have got a $1000 tray for $95 had it not been the owner and manager of the estate company checking everyone out.

Pretty sad, and she even argued about it like she had set-up the items for the auction. Would have been cool to have had a camera record what she actually did, and then ask her how many nights would she now like to spend in the clink!

We've experienced that same sort of thing many times. One auction we went to, the wife was looking at several boxes of doillies (those little lace things). There was one box that she especially liked, as well as another she would bid on if it didn't go too high. Well, she won the bid on both boxes, even going higher than she wanted on the one GOOD box. When we got home, not one single item was in the box that was there before. What we "suspect" happened was that some (probably) woman went through the boxes and, at the last minute, put all the best stuff in the worst box that nobody wanted. She snapped that box up in a heartbeat, yet never bid on any of the others.

Often we have also been bid up by someone who is selling at an auction. Isn't supposed to happen, but often times the auctioneer won't care, as these folks bring more profits in for him. So finally, we just got fed up. ...Besides, got no more room for stuff anymore!

The estate sale co will remember her. Here there is a pretty small circle of companies and dealers and a good reputation is important. Being cutthroat or trying to cheat will cost you in the long term
