Good afternoon everyone. I have found this button while metal detecting my yard along with this button I have found 3 1798 large draped cents and a 1770 British coin. I posted this in another category here and was told to post here. It seems this may be a Washington inaugural button. Can anyone confirm this? And a value if at all possible image.jpeg

Excellent! Yes, it sure is one. But darned if I can tell which variety, which determines value. Might need additional pictures to show as much detail as possible.

Hi; It sure is and it's a BEAUTY.!!! DO NOT CLEAN IT AT ALL.!!! You WILL destroy it and any value it has. PCGS will Certify and Grade it for you ok. D NOT clean it PLEASE. Leave it as is. Yours is the 1789 Federal Eagle w/ Scottish Jewel Indentees. It was made by Robert Scot of Edinburgh, Scotland and his Group of Philadelphia Artisans.
Here is one Link: George Washington Inaugural Buttons Good Luck; Sweet Find. It is a once in a Lifetime find literally. CONGRATS. PEACE:RONB :headbang:

In looking in Albert's book, your button would be one of the ones shown on page 394, number 12A to 12D. The button shown as being high dollar has a line inside the dots on the edge. In Albert's book, that would be 12A or 12D. In the picture you gave us I cannot tell in that inner line is present. In Albert' book he gives us the following: 12A has a border of 49 marks, 12B has a border with 54 marks, 12C has a border with 63 marks and 12D has a border of 72 marks. Now we need to count yours and the ones on the high dollar one. Good luck, I hope yours is the high dollar one.

You posted your picture while I was typing. I think you may have 12C with 63 marks on the border. I counted the ones Osage showed that was high dollar, and guess what, it had 63 also. But on yours I cannot make out the inner line, but it may be there.

I saw this on the CW Forum a few min ago , WI-12 A, 12 B or 12 C (Depending on number of marks).

I'd love to "Pick your yard apart". But Do it neatly.

It's hard I have a cheap detector so I don't have a bunch of settings so I dig up a lot and I mean a lot of junk. I need to learn how to zero in on just coins and stuff like that I have found like 6 different buttons and some 1700 coins but I feel like I'm missing a lot

If I was finding the stuff you are I would dig every signal. That next piece of trash might just be a gold ring. Congrats on the Washington button!

I counted 63 marks around the edge so that would be WI-12C in Alberts book.
