WW I training camp finds - Stopped by woods where training camp was in the early 1900s _ hit there last year and with my CZ21 water machine in all metal mode and came up with some period finds down deep that others with land machines had missed. Decided to stop there quick and try again with CZ21 - not much but didnt get skunked...indian head is 1904 and was a whisper signal - it was down about a foot and a half - i had to clear 6 ins. of pine needles before digging into actual soil a foot or more. Everything here in the pine needles is post camp because this place was clear cut field - its now pine woods...you clear needles and still get a signal - 9 times out of 10 you got something period. Center pointy thing looks like it was off a drafting tool (compass?)- Bullet shell is period - lid is from a Merry Widow container - glass item is old salt shaker.

Some nice finds and a great historic photo of the camp! :icon_thumright:

Nice old pic and history of the area. Congrats on the relics and IHC.

Fresh from ground - my GF was with me so had her get a few pics
this was the deep indian head - area is loaded with so much trash - was happy to squeak it out between all the iron
I got tons of IH's over the years from old schools and parks - but ones here are a little more special because
they are lost by guys before they went over to France
it was down around a foot and a half - CZ21 goes deep in all metal - kicked 6 ins. of needles and soil off to the edge of hole
from there it is about a foot to the bottom - i kept checking with pinpointer and taking soil out an inch at a time till
i had it in my hand

Most I know would not think so but to me any time I come away with a keeper or 2 Im happy
i had a lot of nice stuff from this spot when i was a kid in the 70s-80s
sold it all to pay for car - car insurance -gas
I wasnt into the relic and collectibles back then - i was in it to fill my coin collection and I got a fair
amount of IH's and Barbers from here -- I'd give my back teeth to have all the relics back
I had metal wings from bi-plane pilots and all kinds of rare WW I medals- discs and buttons
and regular odds and ends from a military camp. I have a small collection now from late 90s to present
I hit here like once a year to see what was missed - in the 70s and 80s i used a Compass TR machine
that only went down 6-8 inches. The pine needles can be that in some spots here so good to have
a newer machine with more depth. This area was a kids hang out and party area - lots of trash -
guy would park out here on dirt roads that ran thru the trees and change their oil and other car work
there are old oil filters and spark plugs and nits and bolts all over in spots. So not the easiest place to hit.
It was hit by a bunch of guys once word got out we were finding old silver here - I actually got some other
silver items and a few gold.
They were planning on building a museum near by and I told them I'd be happy to put on loan a display
of finds from there and they seemed excited - so every little bit i find adds to what i hopefully will one
day be able to display.

Nice finds.Congratulations

Nothing wrong with any of that. Nice finds! And hey, it was a nice day out and you never know what you'll find. Good hunting!

Again, way to work it, Casper. Anyone that can find a penny 18" deep with any machine is showing the experience of a successful long time detectorist.

Thanks for sharing and HH ALL
