I am currently looking for a new MD and have narrowed the field to Whites and Minelab. I am leaning toward the Minelab product but have been concerned about the posts regarding the turnaround time for their warranty service. 30 days plus shipping time each way seems a bit outrageous. Is this something I should even be factoring in to the decision making process? Are failures that common in either of these products? Any insight would be welcomed.

I believe Minelab only has one service center in Nevada, Whites has both coasts covered, I've used both and can't say one is any quicker, suspect Whites may be a little easier to deal with on issues. I very much doubt any of the manufactures would suggest they have any problems and am sure that would be very guarded information. Always have a backup machine ready to go. Dan

I am not trying to be judgmental about any one manufacturer. However,
I have read many of posts on this site as well as others about the
tremendous service that "White's" provides. Consistently, it is stated that
their turn around time is quick, and that the machine comes back better
than new. They even fixed or replace things while it's there that has
nothing to do with the original reason for repair.

Hope this information will assist you.

I had the same concerns as well. What I did was called Minelab and talked to customer service and then a tech. I expressed my concerns and they answered all of my questions and assured me that alot of what you read on the internet is not the way it is in real life alot times.... which I already knew. I went ahead and ordered the X-70 and am pretty happy with it. I don't think I will ever have problems out of my machine. If I do I will cross that bridge when I get there.
If you have any concerns call and talk to them and see if that puts your mind at ease.

The main reason I bought a DFX is due to White's great service. so far thou it has not been needed.
Best of luck!
