I found this today about 3 miles from a War of 1812 cemetary. In Western NY. I searched the web but couldnt find this button.
However it does look similiar to some of the other buttons. Please help me to identify it.
Sorry I dont have the best camera but tried drawing a rough picture. Thanks, XLThunter

That looks exactly like a button that I found in a beach trench. I am not positive of the ID. I will wait and see what others say.

It appears to be quite similar to this modern, probably post-1950 blazer button... thin, die-stamped brass with a steel/tin back (often rusted or missing), and bearing a heraldic crest and Latin or pseudo-Latin motto.

Hang in there, XLHunter! The next button could be the "big one"— especially in an area with that kind of history. And remember, it works both ways: sometimes finds that look like junk turn out to be rare and valuable. Either way, it always pays to make sure!

All the best,
PBK

It should read SPECTEMUR AGENDO, which is a Latin motto meaning, "Let us be judged by our actions." It appears on numerous coats of arms.

Nice find, maybe the next one really will be a war button. I found a 1812 Silver Plated Officers button this year and it too came from near a Old Church and Cemetery site. I found it in the gravel driveway.

HH, and hang in there. Ringfinder

What a difference one letter makes! Now I have 7,000 matches to look at. ;D Thanks PBK.
