Hey Smile - It looks to be in such good shape, hard to believe it is old. Was it buried, in the water, on the ground?
Just wondering - Great find either way!!!!
check ima website to get an idea of price
Oh no I do both metal detecting and I rent out storage lots to people and a really big collector just ended up abandoning all his stuff and never came back. I have tons of really cool stuff!
Kathy (koolaidsmile) :-)
You can buy modern Pakistan or Indian made Kukris very cheaply right down to the buffalo hide covered scabbard and the little knives that go with it, and I've seen kukris advertised that are 100 years old, but none are anywhere near as nice as that.
None had engraving on the blade or coins on the scabbard or metal work on the grip. That is definitely premium and may have special historical interest and high value. For example, was it owned by a senior British officer of a Gurkha unit? Specially made for an award? In your place I'd be looking at the other things found with the blades for clues as to who owned it, such as medals, uniform etc. As to age, guess 1870s or newer, and the age of the coins won't necessarily prove the age of the weapon.
nice piece koolaid...but still a tourist item...how many of those knives do you have?
Kukri history:: Khukuri history:: Khukri history:: Origin of Gurkha knife/kukri rummage through this site...you will see what I mean by tourist items.
a true kukri is a weapon...only a weapon...not a shiny decoration to set on the mantel at home.
