A beautiful example of a Gurkha Kukri battle knife.

The kukri (Nepali: खुकुरी, alternatively spelled khukri or khukuri) is a Nepalese knife with an inwardly curved edge, used as both a tool and as a weapon.
The kukri was, and in many cases still is, the basic and traditional utility knife of the Nepalese people. It is a symbolic weapon of the Nepalese Army, and of all Gurkha regiments throughout the world. It is a part of the regimental weaponry and heraldry of the Royal Gurkha Rifles, and is used in many traditional rituals among different ethnic groups of Nepal, including one where the groom wears one during the wedding ceremony. It is known to many people as simply the "Gurkha blade" or "Gurkha knife".
The pronunciation "kukri" is of Western origin, as the Nepalese people to whom this weapon belongs pronounce it with three syllables - "khukuri."

Hey Smile - It looks to be in such good shape, hard to believe it is old. Was it buried, in the water, on the ground?
Just wondering - Great find either way!!!!

If you check out Nepalese coins at this site Numista , you might at least be able to date the coins on the hilt.

hi kool, i think i put this link up b4 Collectible Firearms and Edged Weapons
maybe since you have so many, antique edged wepons, you could arrange
a auction with that co., or maybe some other auction co. but in the mean
time i would look into getting an appraisal for the collection ,and some insurance

You can buy modern Pakistan or Indian made Kukris very cheaply right down to the buffalo hide covered scabbard and the little knives that go with it, and I've seen kukris advertised that are 100 years old, but none are anywhere near as nice as that.

None had engraving on the blade or coins on the scabbard or metal work on the grip. That is definitely premium and may have special historical interest and high value. For example, was it owned by a senior British officer of a Gurkha unit? Specially made for an award? In your place I'd be looking at the other things found with the blades for clues as to who owned it, such as medals, uniform etc. As to age, guess 1870s or newer, and the age of the coins won't necessarily prove the age of the weapon.

Well that makes me feel real optimistic thank you!
