Wanted To Say Hi- and Thank Everyone...Now I'm Stumped WHAT IS IT??

Thanks everyone- Been reading this site for a couple of years and have been both entertained and educated. I can say I've made money that I would have walked past before.

Now I've been picking and doing this for a while now, and I usually can identify what an item is or is used for. A few weeks ago at one of my regular auction spots that is a weekly event that's mostly just the regular old timers we all got stumped. These 4 boxes of ???? came up and nobody including myself could figure out what they were. I bid and won them for $1 because for $1 no downside worst case is I learned something- and we all know that the other side of those chance buys can sometimes pay!$!$!

So let me try to describe them because the pictures are not that great.
They are glass- must be blown? because they are hollow. The surface is mirrored and the bottom is concave The topside is shaped like a lid for a pot- then the black plastic is actually screwed on the threaded glass-unscrew the plastic part and the threads on the glass part are sized like a light bulb. Now unscrew the black plastic part from itself and you can see that the tube that comes out of it is actually sealed up.
That's about the most detailed confusing description ever posted on this site but it's what I got. Oh and almost forgot these came in brown boxes with the only markings being Made in Japan #43179 (Old #9959-J)
Whatever they are they are well made and in great condition...

Anybody able to tell me what these are???

I have no clue, but if my life depended on a guess I would guess some type of headlight for a car... that is the first thing that popped into my mind when I first seen them..

Light reflector of some sort? Say for medical lighting, dentist, etc. Just a guess.

I am pretty sure I recognize that as a floating coin magic trick. My dad had one and it looked a lot like that. I will do some searching and see if I can find a link for you.

I know the thing you're talking about baylorhall, and it doesn't look like one of those to me. I think it may be some sort of light bulb, as the threading looks like it would fit in a standard socket. The black plastic thing may be for hooking it up to some other type of electrical connector (like for a camera flash system or whatever).

If you're feeling adventurous you could try popping it in to a lamp and seeing what happens (but don't blame me if it explode or melts or something!)

Thanks for the input. It's not the illusion thing but that was interesting to see, pretty cool. I was thinking that it was some sort of lighting or bulb thing because the threads are the same. This doesn't have 2 separate connection points so if I did screw it into standard socket the current would just short out. I thought maybe some kinda bulb where the entire surface acted as a resister and worked as a heat or caused some unusual wavelength of light. I hunted the net for something similar and nothing.. I just don't think that the materials and design would do anything more than blow a circuit except maybe the quick flash/bang that would occur when you connect both sides of the AC. I don't know - I just hope someone comes along and says - HAHA that's a such and such for bla bla and convince me before I go messing/guessing with it. Gotta love the internet so much information!
Again Thank You everyone for the input but this mystery is still unresolved.

Camera related? Old time flash bulb set up?

It's glass, of course diggummup knows what it is!

I'm surprised that the threading on a pre-electric fixture is so similar to an Edison screw. Maybe that's where he got the idea?

Probly is if you look into Edison he was a theif he took other peoples inventions tweeked them an said he invented it..Kinda like Ronco does now with his"inventions"

Diggum- You got it!!! Thank You. SOLVED!! I was pretty sure you would know- You always seem to have the answers!! These were really bothering me not knowing or being able to id them with more time than I care to admit in the search.
I guess now that I signed up I'll post some of my weekly finds.
