Hi all! I hope I'll soon be posting pics like you guys. My Ace250 arrives tomorrow and I"m sittin on three acres here in northern Va in a house whose first section was built in 1810! I"m hoping to get real lucky here and find some nails, beer tabs, rusty washers and buttons! Maybe some other artifacts/coins, i don't really care! There is an old barn on the acreage, as well as a "spring house" which I haven't a clue what that is. Beside the rock spring house is an old rock chimney like another structure stood there. This place is an old manor house that once was a large farm, now developed.

I'll be back asking for tips by tomorrow night, distraught, frustrated and angry with that machine!

Wish me luck all. I'm hoping to share my excitement tomorrow!

Blue skies!

Welcome Dave...

Nana must be reading my mind... LOL....

Being your first time, I'd say just jump right in. It's not like you can mess up anything... BUT... After you think you've covered everything thoroughly, stake it and grid it off and search methodically and I bet you'll find the things you missed... ;)

JMHO... :D

As I recall, back just after the discoery of dirt, having visited my uncle's farm and seen his "Spring House" . . . a Spring House was a building with a reasonably high cement wall, maybe 2' high, with frame walls above that to complete a normal small building. The cement walls formed a tank and it was filled by being near or over a spring or filled by water pumped from a windmill. It was certainly cold water considering it's source and was used to cool milk after milking the cows or to cool other items like maybe watermelon. ;) Of course this was before electricity and other conveniences and was really a great place on any farm . . . especially on a hot summer day.

Sounds like you live on a great site and I'm sure you will find many interesting items there. Good luck and welcome to TNet.

You have an awesome site to hunt there! Cantwait to see your posts and pics. Good luck.

Sounds like you have a dream site to hunt Sky,And welcome. We all look forward to your finds. As said go over and over the site and then go over it again. After a good rain is a great time.Be sure to run your MD up an all around that old stone chimney inside and out. Look over the site as to where all the long gone buildings and outbuildings once set and look for the shortest path between each that folks would have walked. Its all in the ground. Coins, relics and whatsits,Darn i'm starting to foam at the mouth. You get the ideal.Look forward to your finds.HH
