The button appears to be a c. 1850's-70's U.S. Army General Staff button.

Any idea how much the button is worth? ::) The reason that sold for so cheap is cause they didn't list it as Civil war, i should be able to get my $10 out of it. Thanks guys. ;D

The only thing that scares me is there is no backmark on it. Its a Federal Staff Officer's button, but still should have a backmark. Not an expert with US buttons, but I do have Albert's book, could be a variant, I'm not saying its not Civil War, I'm saying I don't know since there is no backmark. If it is in fact a CW button you'll get more than 10.00 out of it, its in real nice shape. Hope this helps.

I am hoping to sell this on eBay and am not sure what to call it exactly, post war U.S offciers button? thanks for the info btw mobrigade. :)
