First one, is like a buckle I have found them complete but not sure what they secured.

Second one is a standard buckle circa WWI.

Rando, there is no writing on the buckle. Although in the 2nd pic, it looks like it is inscribed, it is not.

Hi The first piece looks like part of a suspender buckle. The the small round ends would have gone into ears on the main part and the teeth on the part you dug would grab into the suspender strap so it would stay adjusted. The one on the right is a suspender buckle and could be civil war .I've dug a ton of those things in civil war camps and old house sites.

I whole heartedly agree, the first piece is part of a suspender, and the second if not a suspender buckle is a pants tightner(was on the back of trousers )dating to the 1850's,we as well find many of them in 1850's sites and many have the 1850 patent dates stamped on them.

You know I'm going to have to partially agree with Kuger that the second could be a pants tightener but could also go on a vest too. thanks for helping to keep me straight Kuger
