I found this at an old ghost town. Took 1.5 hours to dig under 4 inch oak roots! Hope it was worth it! Anyway, compared to some pics on the web of wagon wheel hub bands and it looks just like it. Wanted to get your thoughts on it too. First three are my find, last is a pic from the web. Think it is similar to the second or third band, not the first.

Or a bucket or small barrel, any number of things. You're the only one who can say if it was worth it, as i doubt it has any significant monetary value.

I don't care so much about the monetary value, it is the history behind it that interests me!

It's called a hub binder. Barrell or keg hoops are not that thick. Tony

Thanks for the info Tony! Would a barrel or keg that held powder for munitions be thicker than one that would have been used for liquid or flour?

A barrel or keg loop would be slightly angled as the barrel gets smaller. I know because I had one that fell apart and I couldnt get it all back together again lol. Some buckets are not angled but i say wagon wheel hub by the thickness.

Thanks bigcypresshunter! That certainly seems to be the concensus and I'm happy w/that! There was actually a second one nearby, but I could only get to about 1/5 of it due to huge roots. I decided to let someone else tackle that one. Would have been neat to have a pair though!
