Lost Treasure
A wagonload of gold, worth $200,000, was buried in a swampy area
south of Balsam Lake. It was buried seven miles northeast of St. Croix
Falls by miners returning from Montana. Unfortunately they were unable
to retrieve their gold as the treasure sank in quicksand like soil due to
heavy rains.

I am Looking for any further information on the Time period in which this story occurs. Additionally Im interested in the miners identity and any information on the location.

That one appears in Terry's united States treasure atlas, is that where you ran across it?

Keep researching and I believe you will find several places all using the same basic info.

Good hunting and good luck. If you locate the gold, you have to think about how to retrieve it out of the quicksand.
