A friend gave me this button the other day. He told me that he was given the button many years ago by a lady who lived in New Market Virginia (my friend is 85). The back mark on the button is D Evans & Co Attleboro. My question is, what period was D Evans making buttons? Is this button Civil War period or post? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, it's Civil War period, backmark gives it away.

Thanks for the information, it almost seemed too good to be true about it being found in New Market. The cadets involvement in the battle of New Market is legendary here in the Shenandoah Valley. My concern was that it was post war, glad to know it's not.
