Virginia Beach
Detector(s) used
Tiger Shark
Hello all and Happy Holidays!! I haven't been on this site for about a year now and my detector hasn't left my closet this year at all. I have been wanting to get out to the beach but just kept putting it aside. Now I am getting that itch again but didn't know if I would be wasting my time because its the off season and all you diehards have all ready found almost all of whats out there. Hell I would be happy just finding clad just for the thrill of finding something! So even though its winter is there still plenty of change or gold out there? Anyways I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. Chris.

Hey BeachLooker....I haven't been to the oceanfront in a couple of months...so I don't know what's left that hasn't been picked through...however, I am hoping to get to Seashore State Park Beach (rangers told me you can detect it OFF SEASON.....)...and I'd be happy with CLAD too!!!

Might try over there if you can.

I just might try to hit the beach this Thursday...off work and the kids out of school...be kinda' fun to go to the beach this time of year!!

Horrible weather for Christmas here too...don'cha' think? :-\ Where's the snow? ???

Merry Christmas to you and yours....

I was thinking with the shifting sands and tides that some goodies might turn up but I'm no expert. But just to get my detector out once before the years end would be nice. ;D

Ron, that use to be one of my secret spots, never really panned out that great. But was enuf to keep my interest there. One word of advice, STAY on the bay section the southern side of shoredrive and the part on what is it 70th street is still off limits. Also at the extreme east end where it joins ft.story no matter if the fence is broken down or not STAY OUT, its at the ft.story beach and recreation area. I made the mistake of going there one time, they have a refreshment stand, bar etc there, when they found out i was not attached to the mil anylonger nor had i come though the ft gate i was promptly escorted out. Did find close to $15.00 in clad 3 rings and 2 watches there at the vally ball courts before i was escorted out so it was prosperish.

I hunted there bout 7 years ago so it should be refilled with some clad, from what i was told at that time i was one of the first hunters to actually go to the park super and request permission. I did cleanup alot of trash which i always took back to the rangers, to show them my gratitude for allowing me to hunt there.
Alot and i mean alot of fishing hooks and artificial baits with treble hooks so they were extremely happy i was there cleaning there beach.

Infront of like the clubhouse always produced the best, eastward from there was where i got mostly trash and fishing gear, futher east towards the ft.story fence wasn`t a whole lot found but trash.

Hey Ken...hope all is well and wishing you a Merry Christmas!!! Hope we will see you at the Pipsico Hunt come March ;D :D ;D...I brought your chair to the last hunt...I'll bring it to the March one...k? Cause I know you WILL be there ;D

They said you were the first to ask permission? Those liars!!! (sorry)....last summer, Ron and I went out there and went to the Rangers office and asked if we could metal detect and they quicky, without hesitation said NO!...not even the beach!!!

Well, some of the rangers come through my store and I asked them and they said yes, but during off season on the beach. She and a few others have said you can do the campsites, which she said really wasn't allowed, but as long as no one is camping, noone rarely says anything, but it has to be off season.

I may just give a ride out there on Thursday...I'm off that day...and give it a whirl!

What's at 70th Street? That's not the Cavaliar area (new hotel)...is it? And I thought no beach was OWNED by anyone??? (well...beyond the dunes is...)

Yeah, I want to hit up the bay area...with the winds we have had lately, bet the water is stirred up a bit :)

And that is true with Fort Story...last summer I called over there to see about detecting, the beach (military and civilian beaches) only...and the woman was very nice and said, "as much as she would love to have said yes, they can not allow it due to all the ammo within the base limits, buried all over the place." She said (at the time)...the 'archies' (APVA)..were doing digs at the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse and they were running into problems with finding ammo. I don't know how the dig is going, if it's still going on...as I have NOT kept up with that.

But I would LOVE to metal detect Fort Story...OMG...imagine the history we could pull up....minus the ammo :).

My boys camp out there at SCOUT HILL and I've comteplated on bringing my detector...but decided at last minute, best I didn't, since they do searches of vehicles coming onto base...so, my best judgement is to leave it at home!

Ya'll have a Merry Christmas!!!!
