We were having a good bottle digging day, we ended up with 9 complete bottles. Towards the end of the day I saw what I thought was small glass bottle sticking out of the wall and out pops this what I think is a solid silver syringe. In context to where it was found and the docors bottles it was found with will make this a great display piece. Any ideas or thoughts about this Syringe, is it solid silver, what was it used for? Thanks,

look for hallmarks on the piece, it does it'll determine if it's plate or sterling. Cool find either way.

Could be a bolus gun.(bottom is not shown in your pic..) For livestock.
It would make more sense if your bottles were related to veterinary practice.

They did make Hypodermic Needles out of Silver but what you have does not have the glass cylinder that allowed you to measure the amount of medicine being injected. I suspect it was more of an enema or flush type device. Google "Silver Hypodermic Needles" and you will see the difference in the pictures shown.
Nice recovery but where are the pictures of the bottles?? lol

Pretty sure its not silver, but a neat find.

" ...an enema type device"? I would be running ( no pun intended ) to the washroom lol.
I have to agree not a syringe since there are no measurements seen. As relevantchair said, it could be used to push a pill down livestock's throat. They are usually longer though.

What age were the bottles, because some of these pewter types go back a long way, but they have no idea of there use. Lots are found on the Thames & there are stories that the sailors would inject mercury up a rather delicate bit of the male body to rid them of various VDs.

Whatever it is it's pretty scary. I have visions of the doctor bracing his feet on those wings.....ouch!

They used those to dose their nether parts with mercury to try and cure syphilis.
