So what's the story?
Guy goes to his dentist and says doc,I got no time for numbing it up,just pull this tooth,it hurts! Doc says,It,ll hurt! Guy says that,s OK,I,ve suffered the worst and 2nd worst pain a man can have so yank away.Doc extracts tooth and while cleaning up wonders about those pains and asks the guy. Guy says I was moose hunting up in Alaska and had to go right now,so stepped off the trail and dropped my drawers then squatted right into a No. 5 Newhouse bear trap with my danglers, that was the 2nd worse pain I,ve ever experienced.Doc says,2nd worse? What could hurt worse than that? Guy says, when I hit the end of the chain!:laughing7::notworthy::icon_thumleft:

So what's the story?
It was my great grandfather’s … he used to travel around stopping by random camps and helping them harvest…during spring (Canada Geese, Ducks ) & Fall (Moose , Beaver,Snow geese )during one of journeys this was given to him as a gift..
My great grandfather was so experienced
With the knowledge with the land and wildgame

Long time back a retired gov't trapper I knew gave me two dozen of the
Newhouse #3's with the cast jaws, just like that #5. Ran 'em on my trapline for years, and they put a lot of fur in the shed.

Got in a tight spot and sold them about 25 years ago...and even though I don't trap anymore, I wish I hadn't.

That kenwood might be a $5000 or more trap.

Here's a pic. of my #5 & 15 that a friend of mine made for me. The teeth on the #5 are more for show than anything else. The trap itself, though, is the real deal.

How old is it?
Hard to say. The jaws are cast. The older examples have forged springs and (I think) jaws w-brazed on teeth. So, I'm probably a little high on the est. value.

The last one I was bidding on at a sale went for 1300. They were going for around 6-700. I wasn't willing to over pay. Prices are regional. With the reach of the internet, country folks are able to sell to city dwellers with to much money.

Lol

That is a nice old trap. I have all of my Muskrat, Beaver and Coyote traps from when I trapped as a youngster.
