I can not make out the markings but it is a real nice save.
 

I'd date it to the Art Nouveau period. I see a 900 mark so that tells me it is silver. No time to search for the maker at the moment, gotta go to work. Nice find.
 

I was wondering about mark also, but it really don't feel or look
Like silver to me more of a base metal.

Looks right to me as far as silver. No idea how old it is.

I agree with the art nuoveau period...later I'd believe...900 is not sterling...close enough...

I think it is Japanese made...don't have a clue why...
 

Ceramic type canyon, you can see where some has chipped on edges.
 

Very nice piece! There doesn't appear to be any corrosion from your pictures, which points to being silver. Some of the ones listed on eBay as sterling have very similar markings as yours. Good find!
