An Impala in '57 ??? Oh wait.....I remember now..........Those were the ones that had a problem with the carburetor belts and muffler bearings. :icon_jokercolor:

Some of the chrome is still intact, I'm guessing 40's through 60's.

Any help on ID'ing the make & model of the car this came from?
thats a hard one but i do know one thing doublet2a needs to get a handle on himself :icon_jokercolor:

I'm thinking early 60s Ford or Mercury.

Is that an emblem in the center of the "knob", where the shaft would be?

OK thanks. ;D

But since Impala was introduced in 1958, I dont find Doublets joke to be obvious. Is it just me? Any other members that didnt know he was joking? :) :icon_scratch: I thought maybe he worked at a Chevy dealership in the parts dept. I know someone that can rattle off part numbers like that from memory.

He didn't rattle off a part number. He gave the Vehicle Identification Number. In other words he's claiming to know exactly which individual car the door handle is from.

btw, I guess I'm an old car geek. :tard: The first flag for me was the "57 Impala".

No impala in early 57, the 58 came out in sept 57. also the VIN# quoted is not a chevy sequence. So I'll say a joke!! Besides, the only way he'd know is if he stole the handle off the car!

I owned many 60's cars but 50's is a little before my time.

All joking aside, can you clean it and read the numbers on the back side, Goldburn?

Here is an older post on a door handle and some good advice from some knowlegable members may be of some help here. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,144785.0.html

Clean it up real good. There should be engineering numbers that would corelate with the auto makers part number which would give you the year, and model of vehicle it was for.

This engineering number would be for a 1963 Ford Galaxie window crank handle although it could also be used on later models if they did not change designs.
C3AJ 5423342 AA for example

C=Decade 1960
3=Year in Decade 1963
A=Galaxie model
J=?
54= Four door
23342=Base number for a window crank handle
AA=Position on vehicle as Right front, Left front etc. although in this case position would not matter, using the same part for either

Anyway if you wnat to pin it down this may help

Wow bigcy, that brought back memories.
Once upon a young time, I could almost build you a Ford using part numbers alone - the entire 4/5-7-2 sequence for any given part, from the body metal up.
Such was one aspect of my early adulthood, working for Mr Ford.

And, the old Impalas were popular here in the 50's 60's - we still have plenty of enthusiasts in NZ for cool machinery.

Comet or Falcon -early 60s
PT NUMBER C3AZ-6222600-B

edit- Looks like yours must be earlier than 1963-64.
