Did another hunt on the villa site from lasts weeks. The site spreads over the border of two fields and one was planted with green manure. The farmer cut it and plowed it last week so the field was open the last time this spring. And it payed off! A couple coins, most fertilized to death, but two bronzes are nice. Coins of the day are the two silvers, shiny one is IDed as Denarius of MARCUS AURELIUS dated AD 145-147 RIC Vol III (Ant Pius) 429a Obv: AVRELIVS CAE-SAR AVG PII [F] Bare head right Rev COS II Honos standing left holding branch and cornucopiae. Special thanks to CD!
For the Greek looking one i need help to ID. :dontknow:

I'm waiting to here about the Greek looking one, hope someone nails it soon.

As we grid a field that we have covered at least twice, we start to get finds in previously empty spaces. Like as said before & you picked up on, don't be afraid to expand in all directions, even if previous years were fruitless.

PS. GREAT DAY!

Most of the coins today came from a small spot south of the main area with no other finds. :dontknow: It's the direction to the roman road.
The Greek looking one is 17/18mm diameter and 3.1 Gram.

Glad you got some more silver and stuff for the scrap pile Lu. Soooooo much better than just a crummy old safety pin.

very nice finds! gz! :icon_thumright: i want to find some of those ! :) :laughing9:

Thanks all, especially Jamie and Crudad for the ID on the Denarii! Great day, possibly the last of the field season 2013/14. I will put this field on the list for fall, it seems to be like new after the deep plow. :occasion14:
