Video of my first time detecting with the F75

It is not locking on probably junk.
Also what is your sensitivity set at?
They say they come HOT in the factory settings.

Yes, you are doing it right. That is a classic iron nail trick. One direction only high tone. I personally would not have dug those signals- but I've dug thousands of holes with the F75 and I'm used to it. Once you dig a few of those - you will get the hang of it. Stay with it, it's a great machine. All of that extraneous chatter is just that, chatter. You may have the sensitivity too high. You may also want to consider going with 2f tones - that way you will get a low buzz on iron, dead giveaway on a nail. The machine has enough power to give you a great strong repeatable signal on a good target - especially near the surface. Be sure to look for repeatable signals - especially when first starting out - it will get your confidence with the machine going.

good luck, if you have any specific questions, don't hesititate to post them or feel free to pm,

Ian

I hope you give us a follow up on how things went with the F75 this weekend. I am 2 months into the F70 and I am really starting to love it. If you are on the same learning curve I was on than at this point in time you are probably frustrated and worried you may have bought the wrong detector. Hang in there! It really does get better. This Fisher board is loaded with great people who are more than willing to help you out with any advice or questions you need or have.

A couple tips on video #1.

You need to be a bit more animated in your sweeps. Move the coil a couple feet to either side over a hit. You're keeping the target (which I would interpret as still under the soil on the left side of your hole) under the coil. Doesn't give the detector a good contrast to the soil. Remember, all any detector does is tell you something has different conductivity than that of the surrounding soil. The coil should move well past the hole in both directions . . . and you don't need to be afraid to sweep faster. You can't outrun a F-75.

Also, think in three dimensions. If you get a "bouncy" signal like that lift the coil a few inches. If it stops it is probably shallow iron. The confidence scale in your video (left side of the display) is only at 50%, so it was not a coin within 8" of the surface in any case. And, when checking a hit, move beside the hole and sweep from a 90º different path. You were crowded up against the tailings of what was in the hole and you won't be sure if the coil is picking up what's already been dug. Thos is especially handy with nails as they give jumpy readings from different angles. Not a nail 2" from the coil is as conductive as a quarter at 6", but if you lift the coil slightly they drop right down the TDI scale while coins hold much longer.

Note that pressing the coil (as you did in pinpoint) against the soil messes up your ground balance and can also give false signals if you press hard enough to move the wires in or the cable from the coil. Keep the coil floating over the hole.

Haven't seen video #2. I'm on dial up and #1 took 20 minutes to download. :(

They still make Dial UP? LOL

No cable out here. I live just across the valley and on the north facing side of the hill from The Boonies.

However, we have had electricity for almost 20 years now.

Charlie, if ya have a phone, why can't ya go wi-fi. Just piggy back on someone else's ISP...... ;D.....NGE
