VIDEO of homemade gold mat and carpet sluice, artisan well powered...

For those mats to work you need water flow and angle on the sluice. This pump can deliver about 133 gallons per minute. Gold Hog mats running at 10 degree angle on the sluice.

i noticed the mat did not capture as much metals, (mostly lead ) as the expanded steel with carpet.

so ill ditch the mat for my home use-with poor artisan flow, use the mat for fast rivers.

would i be better off with a long expanded steel and carpet sluice? ive got the materials available in my junk pile to make an eight-footer.

maybe making a reserve tank to hold larger volume to get better pressure? i have a 55gal plastic sealed barrel could it help? iam a bit new to this and getting my well to process dirt might is my goal. in mich there is lots of dirt n little gold.

instead of having it poor into a pan, add a water gate and let the water fill the "tub" behind it. you can raise/lower the gate to adjust water depth and it will exit the gate uniformly edge to edge across your sluice and with greater speed due to added pressure.

just a note here ,if you were to make a 8' footer ,you would need alot more water flow , otherwise the crap, will just collect further down, where pressure drops, you say in mich, were theres lots of dirt and little gold, then in my opinion you would want as much flow as you can get otherwise you will build up a lot of crap, with little gold ,frequent cleanups without the payoff for your time and effort, gold regardless of mich, or where your at is heavier than anything else in that stream,i would suggest classifing down as much is reasonable for you, this would alow you to (sluice) more gold bearing matieral, and would allow you to get away with less water flow, because you would be washing smaller matieral ,having said that ,you still need a good bit of water flow to clear the sluice of crap, gold will drop out , dont be affraid of flow ,the more the better. these guys on here know their stuff, they will steer you right. good luck man!

thank you all for the great info, ill post back with a more practical set up.
on a side note, here in upper mich there are some fantastic gold stories.
of three lost mines that have been documented i have located one, there is gold there; in the tailings and in the large sandy rocky hills, its in the river also. the mine is on public land untouched for 100 years-- this is all clear when at the sight. there are areas where the natives hand dug in strange square effigy patterns, 100 year old trees on top of taling piles---a real cool area. there are other lost mines with documentation i want to seek out. i need some help as getting the gold out of the area and hunting down the other mines. i have a uncanny ability to find what iam seeking and can survive in the wild better than a city. message me if your interested in personally helping in any way.
