Hey guys,
I dug this locket today.

It's fairly well stuck together, I'm afraid I might damage it when I try and open it.

The suspense of what's inside a 100+ year old locket is killing me.
Any advice on what I should try?

I wish I knew who's hair that was.
Interesting....

Cool old locket, the hair my be a family member that passed away...

That's an unusual find - it wasn't uncommon during Victorian and Edwardian times to remember a loved one in this manner - is the hair under
a glass piece - I couldn't quite discern from your picture .

Man u never know what you r gonna find metal detecting!

Yes, the hair is under glass.

It must have meant a lot to somebody a long time ago.

That is awesome, looks like it could be a babys curl. Any known family members still in the area? That could be great grandads brother or sis.

That's a cool find, it's called a hair locket and during the Victorian times was used for rememberance of a loved one. Google it up.
Don't through out the hair, it's part of that artifact.

Awesome find! Yes definitely keep the hair in the locket. It looks great just the way it is too. Sometimes.we find relics that can be tied to one specific person, but extremely rare that we would find their DNA!!

It looks like there is a backing on the front and back pieces. They may be able to come out. Sometimes info is put behind them. If there is I would carefully try and remove the front one. I would leave the back intact. The hair lasted this long. No sense in disturbing it.
Absolutely great find.

:hello2:I think it's wonderful! Beautiful cover also. Glad the memory locket is out of the ground again!:hello2: Sadly, in the old days young children could die from simple things like a tooth infection. My mom lost a baby brother that way. And of course even for older children and adults, there were no antibiotics. Andi

Wow! What a cool find!
Maybe you can meet with your towns historian & see if they know of any way to safely age the locket.
