Volksmarch medal...... 6th International Hiking Day, for the city of HahnBach held in 1979.

Use to do these all the time as a kid, when my dad was stationed in Germany, later when I got stationed in Germany, if we completed one in a certain time limit we got credit for our annual PT.

All and all they are fun, you can see some awesome sites depending where it's held, and you get to mix with the locals. Makes for great exercise and great community relations. I actually miss these things about Europe.

The awards can be medals that can be plain, or very ornate and intricate, small or large in size. Then there are times when it might be a plate.

Wow, thanks for the info.. For that year, was all these metals the same looking, or all look different?

Each city had their own medal for their Volksmarch. I think, I can't recall for certain, but I think you bought the medals, so there could be various medals for each Volksmarch.

I had friends who's parents did these all the time, they would have a blanket hanging up with all their medals on them. Just remembering all this brings back fond memories of high school.
