Shell type transformer electromagnet.. Laminated steel sheets on the outside (that stacked look in the picture) and the bulge in the material is copper wiring (windings). The winding bulge in the middle probably had a divider material between them at one point. This one looks pretty toasted maybe it was in a fire or hit by lightning. This one is a little big but could have come out of an old school amplifier.

Hope this helps.

The electromagnet was made from a transformer. That was just the pic I found first.

It actually looks like it , just not as new.

Your right about the fire part! All the other material around it I found indicates there was a fire of some sort. Would they use those on boats for any reason

My first thought is sure these items could have been used in a boat motors especially vintage/homemade types, however, it's more likely it was used in some electric device on the mainland such as an amp, bipolar dc motor, things typically found in a garage that guys would tinker with stuff.

You mentioned you found other material around this item that gave the indication it was all incinerated. What were those other items by chance? If this was all part of a burn pit etc, someone could have just chucked it in by itself or was a smaller part of a bigger item that was burned.

The other items were all lead and seemed to be partially melted and some other pieces were melted badly, and these brass things.

It is definitely a transformer, Judging from the size most likely 24v, many old homes have doorbell transformers, if you dig into the rounded sides you should get to the windings, they are made of copper wires, hate to tell you but you can still buy these brand new for $20 - $30 still its better than an old nail or a pull tab

The other brass pieces are pretty cool too. Thanks for posting those. I can see the second picture is a brass hinge fitting for a toilet seat for a boat.

The first picture is rather interesting considering the mangled nature. Could be wrong here but I think this is part of a hatch cover assembly or a secondary area considering the length is a brass window/door stay casement. Both most likely nautical in nature.
