Well it started out nice spending an hour at the park with my son this morning we recovered 18 coins. Not bad cause he was trying as hard as he could, well then the bad news. As most of you know that read any of my posts clad is no problem....well this afternoon my daughter had a dentist appointment at her new dentist right across from the forest preserve! :) Well first the good news I found a 1920 wheatie (I know not a treasure) but for me was really exciting! Well I did not have my treasure pouch that I usually put my coins into with a tennis ball tube inside. I just had the tennis ball tube in my shorts pocket.....bad idea...when i went back to the car the wheatie had escaped along with a few other coins! >:(

I tried to find it for 20-30 minutes.....no luck....to much scrap in the forest preserve. what a downer...2 hours 26 coins only $2.43....this was worse then the hunt I only found 3 coins during the winter... :(

I have a zippable market traders pouch. Worth a thought.

Have a hole in your pocket and a hole in the tennis ball can?

No lid on top on tennis ball container usually keep it in pouch fits firmly. In pocket when I bent down guess they slid out...very upsetting, I don't find a lot of old coins....

I understand, I would be gutted, probably beat myself up for weeks

Hello Gregg!
Buddy, they can't all be 100 plus days! Sounds to me as though you still had a very enjoyable time!

Last week, at Kit Carson Park here in Trinidad I found 3 wheats and some other stuff. When I got to my truck I could only find two of the wheats. Earlier this week, guess what? Yes, I found the other! It was near the very last place I'd hunted that particular day! Maybe you will find yours eventually.

Always a shame when you are unable to find
something you lost.

Sorry to hear of the loss.

I can share some level of empathy. I, too have lost some good finds for not securing them properly during my hunt.

Het Gregg,
I've lost a few wheats that way, even worse was I lost an Indian and a Merc I thought I had put away, thatk god the memorial pennies weren't lost. I never found those two coins either and am sure someone was a very happy camper. Sorry to hear you lost that coin.

the old pill bottle is always a safe bet ,, a few ripped up paper towels in there and your good to go,,, keep your other finds in a different spot.... ;)

I think with the kind of person you are and the good things you doo, you will have a day soon that is on the oposite side of the spectrum from this. Sorry to hear about the bummer times out there. Hope your luck turns around fast.

I just use an old home depot nail pouch, one side for the goodies, the other for the trash and that seems to work out good for me so far. Mines getting old and worn though and after reading this post, I am going to go spend the 99 cents and get a new one tonight.

Smiles!

Tough luck maybe you can go back sometime and try to find them again.

Sorry about your misfortune, but honestly I thought you were going to say somebody you like/love had gotten hurt or your car vandalized. So all in all, it wasn't so bad to lose your wheatie - all things considered.

I've tried all types of pouches, bags, aprons, etc. for treasure hunting and metal detecting. So far, my favorite has been a flyfishing vest. Plenty of pockets, one or two with zippers, and a place to put trash, treasures, and small tools. It is easy to wear and not cumbersome but does tend to get warm in the summer. Still, I like its convenience and the zipper pockets. Also, I can throw a couple bottles of water into the large pouch on the back.

Too bad Gregg, but isn't that exactly why we find what we do where we do?

Keep safe...

Thanks I am glad all of you responded. M2 that was funny... :) I needed that. Thanks for the pick me up and the good advice. I just cannot believe I did not take better care of it. I know it is not something valuable but it was in nice shape and after all this clad and junk was a nice surprise! I did find a s wheat penny last week. Have not found to many s's....used to finding 57-d's.. :(

This is becoming my favorite forum because of all the good people on here...once again thanks! ;)

Hate to hear you lost your finds. Don't feel bad, you did better then I did today. I ended with $1.78. May the sun shine brighter tomorrow!

Sorry you had to loose the wheat, hope you make up for it soon!

well, some coins are meant to remain lost :'(
