Is this even a geode? I found it on a school playground in gravel, its pretty neat. It would fit on a dime without covering it, its pretty small. I thought geodes were only big rocks lol, not pea sized. I dont generally do rockhounding, but its looks like a lot of fun.

Probably just a broken rock, & the inside
fell away with the other half, (just my thoughts),

It looks like it has banding like agate. On something that small, you might be able to sand that edge down with some wet or dry sandpaper. It will bring out the banding. I start with 200 grit and work down through 400, 600, 800, 1000, 2000 grit paper. Do it on a flat surface and keep it wet. Once you do that, you can try bringing out a polish using suede leather with a polishing compound such as jewelers rouge or the polishes used in rock tumblers.

Geodes can be very small. You can buy the small geodes and cut them yourself for making jewelry.

Nice little find............HH!

geode- a hollow concretionary or nodular stone often lined with crystals

In my area geodes range in size from a pea to a basketball.

Do geodes have a specific location or locations where they are mainly found? I'm a real newbie at this, so forgive my ignorance. My guess is that they are found near major mountain ranges like the Rockies or Adirondacs, but I really don't know. I DO know that when I was a kid and discovered what geodes were, I broke every round rock I could find...and being in Connecticut, all I found was granite and quartz... No 'holes'. (but I kept thinking I smelled gunpowder as I broke those rocks!! ;))
