Sham (Shamborelics) and I wanted to test a new field we got permission to hunt and try out our TDI's that we both just got recently for DIV's. This field we knew was going to be a test because the landowner said when he used to plow the field 20 or 30 years ago there would be dozens of people metal detecting it afterwards. A little about this site is that a small college was built on the hill in 1848 and burned down in the late 1850's. The remaining buildings were used for a school for several years. During the civil war the Confederates used the hill for an artillery battery. We also knew there was going to be a lot of trash where the school once sat. And let me tell you it was loaded. Our TDI's went nuts with all the trash but we soon found out to listen to the "other" tones. It did not take long and I got a very low tone. Out popped my first batwing. When I called Sham over he had just dug a canteen spout. I later found a burnside cartridge and a flange to something. The field was loaded with the old 1800's bricks and square nails and most targets were 18" or deeper. We both could not stay very long as we had family events to attend to but for a quick scouting trip I think it was very successful and hope to find more later when we have more time to hunt it.

Cool find! Good luck with the TDI, I have 1 OTW myself.

Thanks Quindy. I wish I could have found the buckle too but I have rarely seen the two found together. Hope you had a great weekend.

Nice Bat! Your flange is an old doorknob escutcheon.

The TDI is an awesome relic machine and you really have to learn to listen to the tones. I dug a lot of trash and still am as I try to learn the signals better. But it goes very deep. I was digging square nails over 18" deep and it sounded like they were only an inch deep. Very loud signals on the deep targets.
