I suspected that it was from England but nobody had toldme about James I. Thanx... Older than I thought.I think your seal is from 1610-1611 and was used during the reign of James 1. I'm pretty sure I see a J and if that's a 1 on the other side and it is in fact the. "Crown over Thistle" it would have been connected to the cloth trade. Awesome piece. And super super old. That is a very special find
Yeah that's a beauty. I'm almost positive that's the correct id from the symbolism and and the J. These are not easy to identify as there are just soooooo many different symbols and lots of them are very similarI suspected that it was from England but nobody had toldme about James I. Thanx... Yeah it's very hard. The J is why I think it's from the James 1 period. I certainly don't claim to be an expert and hopefully if someone know something I don't please chime in. I do believe the look of it would fit that time period. It's is hard because Scotland used the crown and thistle also. <img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=952511"/>
I think you got it. Nice one! (:I thought the bust looks a lot like Queen Anne, circa 1702-1714. I found these examples. I'm not sure about the legends matching up though. Cloth Seal, Anne, Alnage, Crowned Thistle, 1702 onwards Cloth Seal, Anne, Alnage, Crowned Thistle, 1702 onwards
