1st - I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard Cookjose! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

2nd - I agree with Mackaydon - if you can provide any names, etc. located on the front or back - would sure help in the search.

Thanks for the replies! That’s the next step I will take, the only reason I haven’t looked for a signature is because I will need to take the frame off. The painting and frame are very old and delicate, but I will take my time and remove the frame today. Thanks!

Alright, upon further inspection it appears to be a print, but I could be mistaken. The initials HS can be seen on the horses saddle. The months October, November, December are in the bottom corner. There is also another mark on the bottom of the painting. Perhaps this was part of a calendar? I will leave it to the masses! Pictures are included below.

I think the letters on the horse are 'US', may be an old WWI McClellan saddle blanket from the US Cavalry. :icon_scratch:
As you already mentioned, this is a print from a calendar, someone obviously admired the picture enough to save it and frame it.

"This was first issued with the Mc CLELLAN SADDLE MODEL 1859 EQUIPMENT during the late era of the Dragoon/ Mounted Riflemen and Cavalry regiments. With the redesignated order issued by the Adjutant General’s Office of General Order # 55 dated August 10, 1861 which abolished the three separate mounted corps and consolidated them into one corps designated as Cavalry. Previously to this time frame, the Dragoon branch of service uniform corps facings were of an orange color, until gradually being replaced by the yellow color for the US Cavalry."
