May we please get some additional information? Under what circumstances did you find this thing? I mean, at an old farmhouse, at a lumbercamp, in an urban park? Then, will a magnet stick to it? Does the reverse look exactly the same as this one side you have pictured here? (We usually like to see both sides of something, even if they appear to be merely mirror images of each other.) Is it tapered? A top view might be useful. So a little more info and a picture of the other side might get some additional responses to your query. More info, then stay tuned!!

Another thing that would be helpful would be to know is if the handle is metal (iron?). In other words, will a magnet stick to the handle part? If the head and handle were forged at the time from the same material, that would mean something different than if the handle were non-magnetic (say some preserved wood). Or can you tell how the handle is attached? Let us know. How recently was it buried? What are your ground conditions?

Kia ora, very cool find. Looks as if it's hinged. Can you show the back?

Looking forward to more pictures...

It might just be two pieces of crap rusted together or a very interesting relic!

What great battle took place there and when?

It does look hinged. Maybe part of a clevis pin like what's used on a three point hitch???

This is another one of my wild guesses, but here goes anyway: something from the railroad, a tool for cutting ice off the wheels of the locomotive. HAHAHA, don't think there ever was such a thing. But guessing is half the fun of TreasureNet.
