dawg are you sure it aint a silver proof? some of them are silver. if it aint, its plated

It's a d mint. And how would I know if it's plated or a straight error made with the wrong material.

dawg you asked a question and I'm stating what it could be. If you don't like to hear possibilities because you're unsure don't bother asking at all.

Bro don't get testy. I'm asking u how do I know if it's plated or a silver proof.

dawg I thought you were the one being testy my bad. Ok I saw the D mint mark its not silver. Most likely plated. Not likely an error.

Did you do a sound test? I don't know much about the silver state quarters

I would take it into your LCS and ask if they could weigh it for you and see if it's a silver planchet. It could have made it's way over to the Denver mint. It's probably just plated.

Idk buy sound says not quarter or silver. Feels funny. Almost thought it was plastic till I dropped it on the table. Maybe I'm stupid but I took a thumb tac and was scraping in between the grooves to see if I could get some copper to show. Nada. Like I said before someone else found something very similar on another site and he was getting it looked at because coin dealers were saying it was a very rare error struck on the wrong material. But his was magnetic and weighed 5g. Mine is not magnetic and I have not weighed it but it feels extreamly light.

It seams like I read somewhere about 2004/2005 state quarters having some silvers minted as D/P on accident. Unless I completely imagined that HAHA than I'm sure it would be possible for some 2006s to have the same thing going on!

You need to weigh it to be sure but its most likely a promotional silver plated piece sold on The Home Shopping Network. A silver quarter should weigh 6.25 grams on a digital scale and a clad quarter will weigh 5.67 grams. I have read many many threads on other forums claiming to have found a business strike on a silver planchet only to have their hopes crushed upon weighing the coin, I wish you the best but its highly unlikely.........

I have found two coins that are similar, both are '02's. I almost through them back. They seem to be made of different materials. The Ohio looks like silver, but has a 'P' mint mark. The Tennessee looks like a clad proof, but without copper and it has a 'D' mint mark.

The photos are the best I can do with the lighting I have.

If I don't find silver it's not because I'm not looking!

Well... it is kind of cool but my Widow's Mite and Roman coins are better. No offence. XD :)

I weighed it it comes out to be 0.006kg Silver quarter I have weighs 0.007 and normal quarter comes to 0.005. So it's one gram heavier then a normal quarter but lighter then silver. Does anyone know the weight if these rare quarters cause I cannot find much info on them.

it's plated. not silver. Chances are it was plated for the eye appeal to be sold in a set advertised on TV. it is only worth 25 cents though but i'd keep it just because its different.
