Very nice 5 hour hunt gave up a Barber Quarter that's a BLAZER.
Darrell ...a hunting buddy.... took me to a spot I've had my eyes on for a while...but didn't have permission to hunt.
He obtained permission the day before and popped a few goodies out before hitting it with me Wednesday.
Let's just say it was a very productive 5 hours for us...and we were thrilled.
I really do need to get to work as we are moving fitness equipment around at the YMCA...but I did want to get the pics and post up.
The barber quarter was 8" deep and standing straight up.
I had to dig a small tunnel about 5" off to the bottom left side of the hole to find it.
I'm not sure how I kept from hacking it up...but once I saw the glimmer of silver...I was much more careful.
I chipped out a clod and was lucky enough to have the coin come out intact in the clod.
I kept it that way until I got home...scanned it...then popped it out of the clod and scanned it again.
I LOVE it when I get to pop silver out of a clod...and actually wasn't even sure what date it was until I did so.
The best part of the day though was when some goof walked up to Darrell and told us we probably wouldn't find much.
He had an attitude about him...cocky...and I didn't like it. 8)
99% of the time if you meet a fellow hunter...it is great...but this guy was a jerk to Darrell
He informed us that he and his buddy had "pounded" this exact area the weekend before.
Darrell asked him who had given them permission...but the putz didn't have a response.
To be honest...I wanted to punch his lights out ..just because of his arrogant attitude....and I knew he had hunted without permission which is what ruins it for the rest of us.
People like this really rub me the wrong way.
About that time is when I stuck out my hand...which held some wheaties...2 silver dimes...and the big silver in the clod.
I thought ol' boy's jaw was going to drop down past his shorts when he saw the coins I had.
He mumbled something about maybe not hitting the spot as good as he originally thought... as he was walking away.
That's when Darrell...being the polite , cordial feller' that he is said...."are you sure you had your machines turned on when you hunted here"?
Pretty nice ending to a sweet hunt.
Darrell did well too...ending up with a barber dime and 3 wheaties.
