This morning I met up with Kimsdad, DP Bob, TreasureFiend and
OlderActor. . . in the afternoon. . . for some fun in the woods.

As I was walking along a path next to the river, a little furry critter
hiding in a hollowed-out log caught my attention. . . it was really kind
of cute. . . except for it's killer-looking eyes :o.

Kermit mentioned that he had found indications of some Boy Scout
activity in the past and this was confirmed when I found a BS lapel
pin early in the hunt. . . along with the usual assortment of eating
utensils and pocket knives that had been left for the elements. . . much
to the dismay of their parents who ended up several place-settings short >:(.

Right after lunch (thanks for the Wendy's run Neil ) we headed
to another location across the street. . . and since ALL the groves were
occupied with OTHER activities :P, we concentrated our efforts in the
adjacent wooded areas where the oldies were sure to be hiding.

As I was walking across a wooded island in the middle of a parking lot,
I noticed an unusual-looking stone next to a tree :o. To my surprise, it turned
out to be a Woodland Period point. . . my first :). About 15-minutes after
this discovery, I scored my first silver Merc in two months (and in pristine
condition to boot ).

Sweet Neil! That point is very rough, almost late archaic. Maybe unfinished? Man you got an eye for the stoneware!

Great hunt Mark!
Sorry, that's all I can say for now as I'm speechless over those finds...wow!

Wow that cats eyes turned out cool in the photo...Glad I told you take a picture....

It was cool to see it the log...Later it chased a squirrel up a tree and then stayed there for a good 1/2 hour watching the squirrel.
The squirrel was getting pissed off.

Wtg on that Merc....it's been a while....

You amaze me all the time when you eye some great artifact.....

Had a good time....

Great finds Mark!
Any idea what the thing is directly above the pocket knife at the bottom left in your photo?
I found one exactly like it and have no idea what it is.

I'm pretty sure that was used to tension tent ropes. . . I found a lot of tent grommets in that area as well.

Tim, I think you're correct on the time period of that point. . . and it's even rougher on the opposite side.

Thanks everyone for all your comments. . . the action in the silver & relic department has been
a bit slow for awhile. . . I'm glad it's finally over (I hope :)).

Being a bullet fanatic, I notice the cast bullet in the upper right. It's a modern design and it looks like someone was testing a new handload along the river. Monty

Great meeting you finally. All I can say is you seem to have a knack for finding the unusual! Not sure why you use a detector!! Great arrowhead find.

Jim

Marc,

Interesting and usual finds- as usual. :icon_thumleft: Should've taken the cat home. It was sorta "found". We actually live down the street. I used to go sledding off that big hill adjacent to the lake. Growing up I did find a bunch of jewelry there (not metal detecting) but just on the surface from people (or couples) canoodling there. Not sure exactly which part/side of the woods you guys hit but very glad ya'll found things in the area, which I would otherwise have thought to have been loaded with trash and the like.

Great job guys!

THE RELIC MASTER STRIKES AGAIN. REALLY NICE FINDS MARK!! :icon_sunny:

Relic Master Mark,

Awesome arrowhead! Kermit told me where you found it and I am very familiar with the area. This is why I am astonished that it was still there where you found it, considering all things that have happened there over the last century. Wow, just spectacular.

Why don't you start your own museum of Native American tools and hunting equipment? Certainly, I'd pay to visit! Nice job!

Joe
