Hello Everyone,

Here is a unique metal detected item, but have no idea how it was used. Dug from an 1800's homestead with the following ID numbers:
Garrett AT Pro - 82
Minelab Explorer SE - FE 08 CO 28

Thank you for time,

Professor

Cool piece, my guess it that this was mounted on a clock or some other wood item as an ornate decoration.

Interesting thought! I thought it may be a soap holder or perhaps a night stand jewelry holder. I hope someone knows for sure.

Also it is concaved, not flat, pictures do not show that feature very well.

looks like an Art Nouveau pin tray or what is also called a jewelry dish, probably from 1890 time period. Love that time period. Note the rubbing wear on the base where it slid around for years on a lady's nightstand or dressing table.

Judging by the size and shallowness, it looks to be a fountain pen tray. The motif is Art Nouveau, so it would be circa 1890-1910.

Be sure not to clean it because it has a nice patina.

Neat find :)

You're on the right track. It is a trinket dish.
