Looks like something I used to see in small truck stop diners. For sugar maybe.

Now that I think about it, it may be for a saurkraut jar. :D

Was it near an old diner or homestead or dump? Im just guessing on the lid idea. What else do you find in the area? What kind of metal is it? It looks like the plating is coming off. Maybe someone had a picnic.

Maybe an older/different type of handle/knob for the lid? I think this one is solved :thumbsup:

It was in the back yard of a late 1800's mansion that has since been torn down. Also found a Slaymaker lock about 10 feet from it. A railroad was by it, which carried dynamite.
